In an interview with CelebStoner News, country music legend and longtime cannabis legalization advocate Willie Nelson pointed out what Colorado residents have already discovered for themselves: “There’s a lot of money in selling marijuana. If you can do it legally, that’s good. Why should all the criminals make the money? This is what people are thinking. If it’s happening, if it’s going to be legal, let’s tax it and regulate it, like we do with everything else and make some money off this. I think that’s one reason why people are taking this a little more seriously.”
The 81 year old Texan also had some practical political advice for his fellow stoners: “Get out and go vote. If it’s the day to go vote, make sure you go vote before you burn one down. Don’t get high and forget to vote.”
“I didn’t think it would happen in my lifetime,” admitted Willie, when asked about his reaction to cannabis legalization in Colorado and Washington state, “But here it is. The future looks good.”
Indeed it does, my friend. The tide is turning and prohibition will one day be a thing of the past – just another ridiculous and costly mistake in America’s long and outrageous “War on Drugs.” And for the millions of people who have suffered or lost loved ones to this “war,” that day can’t come soon enough.
